Pesticide Residues in Food and Their Impact on Food Safety
Introduction :
Pesticides are used to protect crops from insects, weeds, fungi, and other pests.Pesticides may have a toxic effect on humans, and can lead to both acute and chronic health effects, depending on how much and how people are exposed to them. Some older, inexpensive pesticides may persist for years in soil and water. These chemicals have been banned from agricultural use in developed countries, but are still used in many developing countries. The people who face the greatest health risks from exposure to pesticides are people who come into contact with pesticides at work, homes, or gardens.Pesticides play a prominent role in food production. It protects or increases crop yields and increases the number of times one crop can be grown at the same timeTo protect food consumers from the harmful effects of pesticides, WHO reviews relevant evidence and sets internationally accepted maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticide residues.
Course Objectives :
At the end of this course, the participants will be able to :
- This course aims to introduce and educate participants about international and regional specifications and legislation related to pesticide residues and their impact on food safety and consumer health and how to keep food safe from this danger, especially vegetables and fruits.

The international standard – good agricultural practices Global Gap
- Is there up-to-date data on the maximum permissible pesticide residues on the crop in the countries where the product will be sold?
- Have measures been taken to ensure that the farmer complies with the conditions of the maximum permissible pesticide residues in the markets in which the crop will be sold?
- Have the potential risks of using crop protection agents on all registered crops been assessed to determine the potential for compliance with maximum pesticide residue limits in the country to which the farms will be sold?
- Is there evidence for analyzing pesticide residues on the crop according to the results of the risk assessment study?
- Is there evidence that the correct procedures for collecting samples were followed?
- Has the laboratory used to analyze pesticide residues been accredited by a local authority in accordance with the conditions for compliance with the ISO17025 specification?
